What is strategic enabling?

Listen to Audio version!
Strategic enabling helps you execute strategic priorities of the business thereby improving business performance.

Unlike other models which still keep you in a "holding pattern" waiting for you to see and be told company information - this is still reactive until you receive a request for help from L&D, which is usually in the form of training for employees.

Strategy enablement is about proactively understanding and interpreting your company priorities, marketing trends, and predicting impact and changes to teams well in advance, before even a request comes to you from C-leaders. You’re putting yourself in the conversation at the start and suggesting solutions.
It can feel scary!

We've got you! With tools and resources to develop your business acumen.
It's not easy. It forces L&D professionals to think outside L&D, outside their company, beyond the here and now which many of us get locked into short term actions.

Strategy enablement, helps you think externally across the whole company, about trends in your industry. And two to five years out.

It forces you to not  just speak the same language, but see the same things C-leaders see and determine what direction the company should take, or if it takes a specific route, how can L&D help.

How can L&D be strategic is not just about achieve business metrics and performance, but improving the "tightness" and precision with which strategy is executed.

This means finding ways to be efficient, not get distracted, and deliver things on time when we promise we will.

How can I become a strategic enabler?

  1. Seeing your industry as where  your customers are (e.g. banking, fashion) not L&D as your industry (which is more your profession). What one industry trend can you research for your company?

2. What one business tool can you use?

3. What info is already available to you but you don't feel it's your role or you don't have "permission" to use it?

4. Who can you speak outside of L&D to help you learn business or interpret that document in your company you don't understand?
